There is reason to believe, that the spirits of good men possess some knowledge, after their departure, of what is done here by their former associates. If any such knowledge is allowed them, we must suppose it is accompanied by a lively interest in our condition and conduct. But the interest they take in our feelings and fortunes is, probably, not proportioned to the de gree in which these affect us. They measure the relative importance of things by a higher and truer rule than we. Especially would it be unreasonable to suppose, that they regard our demonstrations of re spect and affection now, in the same manner as when we and they were together engaged in the same round of duties and pleasures.
