In the citizenship area, as you probably remember, each year we put out "Congress At Work" from Scholastic magazine. Here is one of the pamphlets from the "You and Your U.S.A." series, this one entitled "Honesty and Integrity." Also, a pamphlet on our flag which we produce.

Some of our pamphlets in the "You and Your U.S.A." series have apparently been stimulating enough that commercial enterprises picked up the pamphlet and reproduced it in color. We can buy it back from them in color cheaper than we can produce it ourselves in black and white.

Here is another one, "The Obligation of Freedom."

Under "Code of Conduct" there is the basic pamphlet which is the basis for the training materials, "The Fighting Man's Code," the code itself signed by the President, a reproduction of the six winning illustrations on the code, and "A Ride to Panmunjom," which was written as you probably remember by Lt. Duane Thorin. We have also produced a radio album consisting of 40 short dramatic plays based on the book.

On the subject of "Area Orientation," here are some of the covers of pocket guides to some 18 countries. These are not, I might say, a rework of old World War II stuff. These have been very carefully devised, brought up to date with imagination, and I think as you will agree, the art which is prepared by our own staff is outstanding. They have a habit of winning prizes for this kind of artwork, and we believe that attractive covers such as these stimulate the use of the pocket guides.

Another thing which we believe is very important are language records. It is one thing for a man going, for instance, as an attaché to take a formal course in a language.

We felt that it was very important for men going overseas to be able to speak at least a few phrases of the language "Thank you," "Goodby," "How are you?" "Pardon me," or something of this nature. If nothing else, to demonstrate an interest in the culture of that particular country. We put out two longplaying records and in each kit there are two study pamphlets, one for his wife and family if they care to learn the language. In each kit there are 600 basic phrases and 300 military terms. You may be interested to know that some of these languages have been produced in the United States so far as we know, for the first time.

For instance, here are some more of the exotic languages:

Arabic, Cambodian, Hausa, Hebrew, Indonesian, Kurdish, Loa, Persian, Bangali, Thai, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Swahili, Serbo› Croatian, Amharic, Hindustani.

Incidentally, perhaps I should say on the language records that even though we produce these for the services, for instance, military assistance personnel going overseas, we also worked out an arrangement whereby the Department of Defense seal is taken off the kit and it can be sold through PX's and now even through a private organization.

On the clipsheet, I think I need not spend any time explaining what it is. I believe you are all aware of it by this time. This is the type of material we supply to the over 1,400 base and station newspapers, including mats with the clipsheet, and a galley guide that will help them to do a better job in republishing their own local paper.
