N. B. In the article, Report III. No. 9,-in which are exhibited certain Resolutions as come to by a Society styled "Society of Sectaries," the persons present, sixteen in number, are all mentioned by their names, in conjunction with the names of the Societies, for which they were respectively thus officiating.

For another instance, in which mention is made of the persons present. See Form of Disorder 13.

+ The instances in which, in the character of a token of authenticity, this circumstance is material, being the same as those

which come under the last mentioned head, viz. that of Persons present, for the particulars of these same instances see that same head.

* These instances are of course the same as those comprised under the two heads last-mentioned.

Instances in which the time is mentioned are- -I. In Report I. Nos. 1, 2, 7: II. In Report II. Nos. 4, 5, 6, 7: III. In Report III. Nos. 3, 4, 5. N. B. In Report II. No. 4, which has a date, is a reprint of Report I. No. 3, which has no date: also in Report II. No. 5, is a reprint of Report I. No. 7: also in Report II. No. 6, is a reprint of an Article which in Report I. has no No.: also in Report II. No. 7, is a reprint of Report I. No. 5.

+ Instances in which the mention made of the time is compleat, are-I. In Report I. No. 1, 2, 7; In Report II. No. 5.In Report II. No. 5, is a reprint of Report I. No. 7,

I. Table of Contents.-1. The Contents in question are the Contents of the Appendix; in that part of the publication are comprised all the articles thus referred to.-Accordingly in Report I., the words of the title prefixed to the list of these articles are-Contents of the Appendix. In Report II. the words areTable of Contents: and so in Report III.

2. In the Table of Contents to Report I., no figures of reference

Nor is this all. For, as if to cut a figure with, and, upon his first entrance upon his task, to im

are to be seen, referring to the pages, at which the papers in question respectively commence. In Report II. figures for this purpose are inserted: and so in Report III. The alteration is manifestly an improvement. But that such an improvement should remain to be made!!

II. List of Books recommended.-In speaking of Report I. p. 197, it bas already been shewn how the recommendation there given, of a list of books for Lesson-books, is slid in without any distinctive mark. No No., and thence no place is gven to it in the Table of Contents :-no title at the head of the article itself. In Report II. p. 189, as already observed, enters again this same article; and all this time furnished with a No.-viz. No. 6: but neither in the Table of Contents, nor at the head of the article itself has it any other than an uncharacteristic title. In Report III. p. 168, it presents the same appearance as in Report II. having in both places a No. viz. in Report II. No. 6; in Report III. No. 4: the title in the Table of Contents being the same in the later Report as in the earlier: so likewise the title at the head of the article itself: but in each Report the title in the two places is different; and in both of them uncharacteristic.

In Report II. p. 100, No. 6. the Secretary's signature to this article-this signature, though subscribed (it is therein said) by order of the Committee, has (it has been seen) no time of date to it; in Report III. it has however, a time of date to it. But the time is (it has been seen) an incompletely designated one; the day of the month being wanting, and for the fixation of the Month and Year, viz. Aug. 1812: and the source which Mr. Sec. has recourse to for this purpose, is no other than the title to this article, as printed in the Table of Contents of the last preceding Report, viz. Report II.: for at the time of drawing up this Table,

III. Plan of Union.-1. In Report I. the article intituled Plan of Union, makes its appearance without any authenticating date; in Report II. it makes its appearance for the first time, with a date, though that date is even then an imperfect one, the day of the month being wanting. In Report III. it makes its appearance with the same imperfect date. In p. 210, of this, a cause for that disconformity likewise has been endeavoured to be found.

IV. Lists of Benefactors.-In relation to this subject, the following are the diversities exhibited by the three Reports.

1. In Report 1., in the Table of Contents, no mention of any such article, nor consequently any No. for the designation of any such article, is to be found. But, in p. 69, commences an article (of course without a No.), having for its title " BENEFACTORS and ANNUAL SUBSCRIBERS," Occupying the pages from 69 to 113: and in p. 117, commences another list (without a No.) having for its title the words Benefactors and Annual Subscribers to Societies in the Country, occupying the pages from 117 to 196.

2. In Report II. in the Table of Contents, at the end of the list of numbered articles, comes an article without a No. viz. "A List of Benefactors and Annual Subscribers," with a reference to p. 203. At p. 203, accordingly commences a list having for its title the words BENEFACTORS and ANNUAL SUBSCRIBERS; Occupying the pages from 205 to 253. A remarkable circumstance is-that in this Report II., no list of Benefactors and Annual Subscribers to Societies in the Country is to be found.

3. In Report III., as in Report II., in the Table of Contents, at the end of the list of numbered articles, comes an article with

of the proceedings, and thence in the whole of the accounts given of them,-this meeting it is, of

out a number, viz. "A List of Benefactors and Annual Sub"scribers." Here no reference is to be found in any page. At the end of the publication however, (the series of numbered pages closing with p. 183,) commences a list, (pages not numbered) having for its title, as in Report II., the words Benefactors and Annual Subscribers. But neither in this Third Report, any more than in Report II., is any list, of Benefactors, &c. in the Country, to be found. In Report I. this Country list is a good deal more numerous, it may be seen, than the Town list. Of this discontinuance would you know the cause?-Enquire of those who are in the secret,

V. Persons present.-In the article, Report III. No. 9, exhibiting certain Resolutions come to by a Society styled "Society of Secretaries"-(Resolutions tending to the communicating of information and to the appointment of a Visitor to the schools)the persons present are all mentioned by their names, in conjunction respectively with the names of the Societies for which they were thus officiating. Moreover, in this instance, exhibition is made of the several other tokens of authenticity: viz. Place, "The Central School:"-Time,-and that, as in so many of the above instances, not incompleatly, but compleatly, and even more than compleatly, designated ;-viz. " Tuesday, the 31st of May, 1814."-To this article is attached the following signature, viz. T. T. WALMSLEY, Chairman.—The body here in question,-though a body in a certain sort connected with, and acting under the influence of the governing body of the Society in question,-not being, in the manner of a Committee, in a state of regular sub-ordination in relation to it,-thence it was that, under the several former heads, in the character of a source of exemplification, this article could not without impropriety be brought to view.
