PURDUE

Libraries

The cover illustration by Leo Haas is from the cycle 12 Puvodnich Litografi z nemeckych koncentracnich Taboru, first published in Prague in 1947. This cycle was based on clandestine works from 1944 that had been completed by Haas at Theresienstadt and Auschwitz. Since the originals had been lost during the war, the cycle was reconstructed from memory. The twelve lithographs depict the daily travails of roll call, forced labor, imprisonment, and deportation at Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and other concentration camps, reflecting the themes and style of Haas's clandestine drawings from 1941 to 1944.
