"gregation, that I may confume them in a mo66 ment. And they fell upon their faces, and faid, "O God, the God of the fpirits of all flefh, fhall "one man fin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the "congregation? And JEHOVAH fpake unto Mofes, "faying, Speak unto the congregation, faying, "Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, "Dathan, and Abiram. And Mofes rofe up and "went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of "Ifrael followed him. And he spake unto the con"gregation, faying, Depart, I pray you, from the

tents of thefe wicked men, and touch nothing of "theirs, left ye be confumed in all their fins. So "they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, "and Abiram, on every fide; and Dathan and "Abiram came out, and ftood in the door of their ❝tents, and their wives, and their fons, and their "little children. And Mofes faid, Hereby ye shall "know that JEHOVAH hath fent me to do all these "works; for I have not done them of mine own "mind. If thefe men die the common death of all

men, or if they be vifited after the vifitation of all 66 men; then JEHOVAH hath not sent me. But if "JEHOVAH make a new thing, and the earth open "her mouth, and fwallow them up, with all that ap"pertain unto them, and they go down quick into the "pit; then ye fhall understand that thefe men have "provoked JEHOVAH. And it came to pafs, as he had "made an end of speaking all these words, that the "ground clave afunder that was under them: and "the earth opened her mouth, and fwallowed them and their houses, and all the men that apper

"tained unto Korah, and all their goods. They, "and all that appertained to them, went down alive

into the pit, and the earth clofed upon them: and "they perifhed from among the congregation. And "all Ifrael that were round about them fled at the cry of them for they faid, Left the earth fwallow "us up alfo. And there came out a fire from "JEHOVAH, and confumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incenfe." Numb. xvi. 1-35.

Hear now, I pray you, my fellow Chriftians, who have been engaged in difturbing the Jews; efpecially do I addrefs myself to the members of the Miffionary and London Societies: feemeth it a small thing unto you that it hath pleased the Great Creator of heaven and earth, the God of Ifrael, to grant unto us the ineftimable advantages he has given us to poffefs, by means of the Jewish nation? Seemeth it a fmall thing unto you that by means of the Jewish nation he hath delivered us from being the worshippers of stocks and ftones, as we were before he thus delivered us by means of the Jewish nation, his own peculiar people? Seemeth it a small thing unto you that it hath pleased him to give unto us, by means of the Jewish nation, to poffefs the Books of Mofes and the Prophets, in which are to be found the foundation ftones of all our hopes as Chriftians? Seemeth it a fmall thing unto you, that by these Books of Mofes and the Prophets, we are enabled to confefs that JEHOVAH, God of Ifrael, the Great Creator of heaven and earth, is the rock, that his work is perfect for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth

and

and without iniquity, juft and right is he? Deut. xxxii. 4. Seemeth it a small thing unto you that we are thereby enabled to ascribe greatnefs unto JEHOVAH, the God of Abraham, the God of Ifaac, and the God of Jacob, the Great Creator of heaven and earth, and all the hofts of them; and to affert the justice and equality of all his ways to man? Seemeth it a small thing unto you, that it hath pleased him to manifeft his love unto us in that "when we were yet "without ftrength, in due time Chrift died for the "ungodly?" Rom. v. 6. "Herein is love, not that "we loved God, but that he loved us, and SENT "his fon to be the propitiation for our fins." 1 John iv. 10. Seemeth it a small thing unto you that by his mercy we poffefs the true knowledge of this propitiation for our fins, in the Books of the New Teftament, every line of which were written by members of the Jewish nation? Will not all these bleffings content you, unless ye can deprive Ifrael of his inheritance, as the fon, the firftborn of JEHOVAH? Exod. iv. 22.

"Deprive Ifrael of his inheritance! Who wants to "deprive Ifrael of his inheritance? So far from

wanting to deprive Ifrael of his inheritance, that "we anxiously defire to fee Ifrael reftored to his "inheritance, even to that land which was promised "to them; and although this is not the primary "object for which the London Society for promoting "Christianity among the Jews is formed, yet it is a "fecondary object, inasmuch as if we fucceed in our primary object, the fecondary will follow of ❝ course,

courfe, as the bar to their return will thereby be " removed."

You will pardon my putting these words in your mouth; I have already expreffed my firm opinion of your fincerity, and of the fincerity of thofe with whom you act; and as to this matter of the inheritance of Ifrael, I am fully fatisfied that you do really think that the measures you are pursuing tend to the restoration of Ifrael to the land of their fathers. You have a tradition among you to this effect; but you will do well in this refpect to act up to your principles, and bring this tradition to the teft of God's most holy word.

We have already had occafion to trace the PATH whereby Ifrael will return to their long loft inheritance, and to fhew in what manner they will be PREPARED to return to the land of their fathers, before they are permitted to return; but it is a fubject upon which fomething yet remains to be urged, for they are not only to meditate upon and call to mind the good and evil that have happened to their nation, they are not only to make the confeffion recorded in Levit. xxvi. 40, 41. but the refult of all the previous steps tend to this, which is the object to which they are all directed, even their RETURN TO JEHOVAH THEIR GOD, by obeying the LAWS given by HIM to THEM, by the hand of MOSES HIS SERVANT. The END to which all the previous fteps to be taken by them tend, is declared by Mofes, the fervant of God, to be this given point, that they will return unto JEHOVAH their God, and OBEY HIS VOICE, as he faith,

"ACCORDING ΤΟ ALL THAT I COMMAND "THEE THIS DAY, THOU AND THY CHIL

DREN, WITH ALL THINE HEART, AND WITH "ALL THY SOUL." Deut. xxx. 2. Then, and NOT till then, is it declared in God's most holy word that he will turn their captivity, and GATHER them from all the nations whither he (even JEHOVAH their God) hath SCATTERED them, ver. 3. Then, but NOT till then, will he bring them into the land which their fathers poffeffed, and do them good, and multiply them above their fathers, ver. 5.

Search and fee if these things are not fo! and obferve the confequence that naturally follows, which is even this, that whoever endeavours to draw any of the Jewish nation afide from, or to weaken their attachment to, the HOLY LAWS OF JEHOVAH, THEIR GOD, as given by him to them, by the hand of Mofes his fervant, acts a part inimical, yea, in the moft enormous degree inimical, to the Jewish nation. It does not require any learned argument; it is plain and obvious; it is repeated again and again, that the obfervance of the law of JEHOVAH their God, given by him to them by the hand of Mofes his fervant, is that difpofition which he will blefs and reward by their reftoration, for "JEHOVAH will "again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced

over thy fathers: if thou fhall hearken unto the "voice of JEHOVAH THY GOD, to keep his COM

MANDMENTS and his STATUTES which are "written in this BOOK of the LAW, and if thou "turn unto JEHOVAH THY GOD with ALL thine ❝ heart,
