OVERALL FUND REQUEST

Senator PASTORE. The subcommittee will be in order.

The subcommittee will now consider the overall 1974 fund requirements for the Department of Commerce. The total request is $1,254,361,000, a net decrease of $581,370,500 from the 1973 appropriations to date.

The 1974 request includes $1,032,846,000 in new budget authority, and $221,515,000 in appropriations to liquidate contract authority. The number of permanent positions requested for 1974 is 24,947, a decrease of 499 from the number of 25,446 authorized for 1973.

The summary justifications filed in support of the overall 1974 budget request will be placed in the record.
