TO THE PUBLIC. Two VOLUMES of the Third Series of THE LONDON MAGA

1 ZINE are now completed; and the Conductors have the satisfaction of knowing that their endeavours to produce an useful and agreeable Miscellany have met with the public approbation. Their work has neither wholly been a Collection of Essays, that bave no reference to the interests of the day, nor a mere vehicle of undigested opinions and correspondence on temporary subjects. They have endeavoured to unite the higher literary pretensions of the modern Magazines, with the laborious usefulness of their almost obsolete predecessors; and although they may have failed to realize their own wishes in many particulars, they have done enough to secure a permanent and very increasing support.

But the Conductors of The LONDON MAGAZINE still consider that, by varying and extending their arrangements, they may add to the utility of their publication, without in the slightest degree diminishing any feature of attraction. They therefore propose, with the commencement of the new year, to devote a portion of each Number, perhaps about a fourth, to a brief but comprehensive and digested notice of every Novelty and Discovery in Science, Natural Philosophy and History, Statistics, Legislature and Jurisprudence ; 80 that a Conversational Record may be preserved, of easy reference, of every valuable addition to the knowledge of the age. This department will not be a chronicle of accidents, and of marriages and deaths, a list of bankrupts, or a register of the price of stocks : its materials will be collected from all the Foreign Periodical Works, and from our own various records of inventions and improvements. The important Reports of Parliament will be systematically consulted ; every scattered paragraph of the great body of moderu Voyages and Travels, which adds any new materials to our stock of existing information, will be diligently culled ;-and in all cases the autborities for these abstracts will be carefully given. The paging of this part of The London MAGAZINE will be distinct, so that the original and the compiled portions of the publication may be separately bound at the end of the year ; the one forming two Volumes the other one.

“THE JOURNAL OF FACTS” will be printed in double columns; and an arrangemənt will be uniformly preserved, which will enable the reader to refer, without difficulty, to any fact under its proper head.

London : Published for the PROPRIETORS, by their Agent, H. Hoopg, 13, Pall Mall East.

This day is published, by R. Ackermann, Strand, London, No. 1, of REPOSITORY OF FASHIONS ; to be continned monthly,

Orders are requested through all the respectable Booksellers in town and country. Advertisements and stitching-bills as usual, on moderate terms.

A very small portion only of the FORGET ME NOT can still be had at 96, Strand; but it is fairly presumed that long before New Year's day not a copy will be left. In former years, many were disappointed by applying too late. Some of the scarce volumes sell now at two guineas and upwards.

Also, just published, BIBLE HISTORIES, ilustrated with fifty-two line Engravings, and nearly two hundred pages of Letter-press. Price 12s. boards ; 14s. bound in silk.
