- Fine Paper, 16s. • The excellencies and defects of Reiske's Edition of Demosthenes are too well known, to need any enumeration here. It is enough, that it contains so much that was, valuable, as to render a reprint highly desirable. We have at present only to do witli Professor Schaefer's illustrations and remarks. Nothing could be easier for a man of so deep and extensive a knowledge of the Greek, of so acute a judgment, and of so fine

a tasta, to correct in inumerable instances the errors of his predecessors. This the Editor has done with so much success, that it would be superfluous to select passages in proof, as every page will furnish them. His annotations abound with grammatical and lexicographical remarks, which, if they do not always appear connected with the passage under consideration, will be thankfully received as valuable contributions to a more exact knowledge of the Greek.

It is scarcely necessary to inform our readers, that the greater number of Schaefer's Notes refers to the critical reading of the text. At the same time he has done much towards the illustration of his Author, and has made considerable use of the writings of Bæckh and his disciples." From the Hallische Literutur Zeitung, January, 1828.
