6. LESSONS FROM THE DOCTRINES.

From these doctrines we learn,

(1.) That we should never doubt the ability or willinge

ness of Christ to save us.

(2.) That we should always endeavour to attain and cultivate that peace of mind which true faith imparts. (3.) That we should ourselves know, and endeavour to make others perceive the necessity of a divine Re. deemer.

(4.) That we should place all our reliance for salvatior on Christ alone.

(5.) That we should, from Scripture, assure ourselves o the ability and willingness of Christ to save us. (6.) That we should endeavour to possess that spiritua peace and comfort which God's promises are calculat ed to inspire.

(7.) That we should constantly avoid, or resist ever! temptation to sin.

(8.) That we should shew the vigour of our faith, by the value and extent of our good works.

(9.) That we should never be too much elevated by suo cess, or depressed by affliction.

(10.) That we should frequently meditate on the joy. and blessedness of heaven.

[For collateral Lessons, and Inferences, see Appendix.]

What should we endeavour to attain and cultivate? (2. What should we ourselves know, and endeavour to mak others perceive? (3.)

On whom alone should we place our reliance for salva tion? (4.)

Of what should we assure ourselves from Scripture? (5. ̧
What should we endeavour to possess ?(6.)

What are God's promises calculated to give? (6.)

In what manner should we shew the vigour of ou faith? (8.)

By what should we never be too much elevated? (9.) By what should we never be too much depressed? (9.) On what should we frequently meditate? (10.)

8. DEVOTIONAL EXERCISE FROM THE ANSWER. Petition. Enable us securely and placidly to rest upon Jesus Christ as thy Son, and as our only and sufficient Saviour; and may this true belief make us trust in thy promises, resist temptations, strive to do good, live above the world, and hope for glory.

9. DEVOTIONAL EXERCISE FROM THE LESSONS. O Lord, (1.) keep us from doubting at any time, or under any circumstances, either the ability or the willingness of Christ to save us; and may we, in returning to him, (2.) endeavour to cultivate that peace of mind which true and lively faith always imparts. May (3.) we ourselves know, and may we endeavour to make others perceive, the necessity that there is for a divine Redeemer; and as Jesus Christ, thy Son, is God as well as man, (4.) may we place all our reliance for salvation on him, and on him alone; being (5.) assured from Scripture, that he is both able and willing to save all who come unto thee through him. May we diligently «seek, (6.) and endeavour to possess that spiritual peace and comfort which thy promises are calculated to inspire; (7.) constantly avoiding or resisting every temptation to sin, and (8.) shewing the vigour of our faith, by the value and extent of our good works and devoted'ness to thee. Keep us (9.) from ever being too much elevated by success, or depressed by affliction; but enable us, as strangers and pilgrims here, to live above the world, and (10.) frequently to meditate upon the joys and blessedness of our heavenly inheritance.
