6. LESSONS FROM THE DOCTRINES.

From these doctrines we learn,

(1.) That we should fear and reverence God.

(2.) That we should not be changeable, but persevering in our resolutions and endeavours to do good.

(3.) That we ought to give God, not only an outward, but an inward and spiritual worship.

(4.) That we should serve no God but the true God.

(5.) That we should give our heart and affections to God. (6) That we should often contrast the shortness and un

certainty of time with the importance of eternity. (7.) That we should receive the revealed mysteries of God with humble adoration and child-like confidence. (8.) That it is foolish and dangerous to oppose God. (9.) That we should love God who first loved us. (10.) That we should abhor deceit and lies, and should always maintain and promote the truth.

(11.) That we should hate and forsake sin, and love

and follow holiness.

(12.) That we should cultivate a holy confidence in the power and protection of God.

(13.) That we should be strictly and scrupulously just and equitable to all.

(14.) That we should seek the fear of God, which is the beginning of wisdom, and which alone is from above. (15, 16.) That we, from love to God, should be kind and good to others.

(17.) That we should cultivate a solemn and constant sense of God's presence.

(18.) That we ought to guard against sinful thoughts, as well as sinful actions.

(19.) That we should, at all times, take care not to say bad words, or to speak evil of others.

(20.) That we should never sin in secret, supposing that we shall not be seen.
