servient, for next to the duty of devotedness to God, is that of devotedness to man. Essential to true piety is the command, “Do good unto all." Then turn to Nature, and what a gush of sweet harmonies will greet our spiritual sense! What welcomes will the flowers give us ! What unexpected responses to our cherished emotions! In what new beauty will our hard-earned sentiments appear!

An earnest piety, well disciplined in the active principles of benevolence and justice, elevated by devout converse with the glorious Author of all, will find earth as well as heaven eloquent in praise and fruitful in joyful thoughts and emotions, eminently to the honour of Him who is the everlasting source of being and of bliss.
