попе when they were redeemed from Egypt, they had the higheft fpiritual felicity, bestowed upon them: viz, the ark of the covenant, the spirit of prophecy, the Urim and Thumim, and the fire from heaven : but all thefe, were wanting in the fecond temple: as fhewn in Volume 1ft. page. 42. As to what the generality of Christian Writers affert, that it denotes the spiritual call of the Gentiles at the coming of Chrift; is highly fallacious: because, in the aforefaid fecond prophecy, the Prophet fays, "And it shall come to pass in that day, (that) the LORD fhall again put forth his hand the fe cond time, to recover the remnant of his people, which fhall remain, from Affyria," &c. Whence, it is clear to demonftration, that as the Prophet calls the future Redemption, the fecond time; and that it is, to recover his people; it can apply to none elfe, but those that had already once before been fo redeemed and as the Prophet fays in the fame pro

collect, from the four extremities of earth. "And the jealoufy of Ephraim f ceafe; and the enmity of Judah shall be more:" &c. Agreeable to what the Prop Ezekiel fays*, when speaking of the un of the two kingdoms of Ifrael and Judah, der the Meffiah, at the future redemptio (as will be fhewn at large in the explanati of that prophecy) all which fhews that, it impoffible to understand it in any other fen but as denoting the future restoration of th nation, in like manner as they were redeem ed from Egypt.

The fixth principle is, that God hath ap pointed a certain and determinate time, fo the Redemption of his people; and which on its arrival, will not by any means, be pre vented from taking place; no, not thoug there fhould be a great number of finner and tranfgreffors among them: for the finners will be cut off; they will be numbered to the fword, and the flaughter: and the righteous, will be brought to the holy land, and enjoy every good as fhewn in the fourth, fixth, eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth

teenth prophecies; and which hath never yet been fulfilled.

The seventh principle is, that the future Redemption is not to take place till after a great length of time; for they are not to be visited, till after many days; fo that they will almost despair of ever being redeemed: as fhewn at large, in the explanation of the fourth, feventh, and ninth prophecies.

The eighth principle is, that at their future Redemption, the Shechinah, or visible fymbol of the Divine prefence, will be again reftored to them, as it was in the tabernacle, and the first temple: the spirit of Prophecy, will likewife be restored to them: and the whole earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD; as fhewn in the fecond, third, ninth, and eleventh prophecies: but none of thefe events took place at their return from Babylon; nor yet in the time of Jefus ; whence it is manifeft, that they remain to be fulfilled.

The ninth principle is, that at the future Redemption, thofe that have apoftatized during this long and dreadful captivity, either through fear, on account of the fearful perfecutions raised against them; or for any other

ther caufe: or who had their children tak from them*; and were thus mingled amor the nations; will all be restored to the na tion: as shewn in the explanation of the f venth and eleventh prophecies. And th fame fays Moses; as fhewn at large, in h first prophecy and it would be only waft ing of time, to shew that this principle wa not fulfilled at their return from Babylon,

The tenth principle is, that at the futur redemption, a king of the lineage of David and called by his name, will reign over the whole nation: as fhewn in the explanation of the second, and seventh prophecies: but nothing of this took place during the continuance of the fecond temple: for then, there was no king of the house of David: but only of the Afmoneans, and the Herodians; whence it is demonftrable, that this principle was not then fulfilled.

The eleventh principle is, that after the future Redemption, of which the several Prophets have prophecied; they never will go into captivity more; neither they, nor their pofterity for ever; because, God will circum

cife their heart; fo that they will no more return to fin and folly: but will for ever continue righteous; they therefore, will for ever inherit the land: as fhewn in the fourth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth prophecies. But this, it is clear from all history, was never fulfilled at their return from Babylon: for it is well known, that during the time of the fecond temple, they were exceedingly wicked; committing the most enormous crimes of robbery, murder, &c. to which may be added, the false, and heretical opinions, that then prevailed among them; and which, was the cause of the total ruin of their common wealth; and of their being carried into this long and dreadful captivity; where they have not to this hour, expiated their numerous crimes: and it is needless to shew that, it hath not been accomplished at any other time.

The twelfth principle is, that after the future Redemption, the great majority of the nations that will then be left, will acknowledge the Unity of God; will serve and worship him; and earnestly defire, to be inftructed in his Law: as fhewn at large, in the first, third, seventh, and eleventh pro
