PREFACE.

In the publication of this arrangement of certain texts of Holy Scripture, the Compiler has had in view the necessity of implanting in the minds of the young a knowledge of the fundamental Prophecies which relate to the Advent of our blessed Lord; and the importance of directing their serious attention to these sacred oracles, not in a spirit of idle curiosity, or amusing research, but as a powerful means of fixing in their minds, at an age when impressions and principles take the deepest root, that wisdom and that understanding which is explained and defined in the book of Job:-" The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil, is understanding."Job xxviii. 28.

The prophecies selected are those well known by every student of holy writ; and those of a more obscure or difficult nature have been omitted. The fulfilment of each prophecy has been, as far as possible, proved, either by the acts or from the words of our Saviour; and the interpretation taken from the opinion of some of the most eminent divines.

In the tabular form of arrangement, the Author is led to hope some increase may be given to the understanding of that Word, the full knowledge of which shall one day cover the earth as the waters do the sea. (Isaiah xi. 9.
