PITTSBURGH, PA., February 28, 1923.

Hon. STEPHEN G. PORTER,

House of Representatives, Washington, D. C.

DEAR SIR: Inclosed find the indorsement of John F. O'Toole, chairman of old-age pension committee of Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Eagles, as well as myself, for your resolution requesting the President to take the necessary steps to limit the production of habit-forming narcotic drugs in consonance with other countries.

I trust this will be satisfactory, and I assure you that you are doing a service to mankind by having this effort made upon the part of the President to stop this most vicious and health-destroying habit, and the way to stop it is to prevent its production. Respectfully yours,

Hon. STEPHEN G. PORTER,

W. J. BRENNEN.

PITTSBURGH, PA., February 28, 1923.

House of Representatives, Washington, D. C. DEAR SIR: The undersigned earnestly indorse H. J. Res. 453, requesting the President to urge upon the governments of certain nations the immediate necessity of limiting the production of habit-forming narcotic drugs and the raw materials from which they are made from the amount actually required for strictly medicinal and scientific purposes, and join with yourself and others in urging the passage of this resolution and in promptly putting into practical execution its very wise and helpful provisions which should place a ban upon the use of these deleterious drugs for other than medicinal and scientific purposes.

It behooves our country, in view of our failure to discountenance and prevent in the past the spreading of his terribly demoralizing habit which is undermining the health, debasing the morals, and destroying the lives of its many victims, to act without unnecessary delay.

Respectfully yours,

[blocks in formation]

ANCIENT ARABIC ORDER NOBLES OF THE MYSTIC SHRINE,

Congressman STEPHEN G. PORTER,

THE IMPERIAL COUNCIL,

Atlanta, Ga., February 16, 1923.

Chairman House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Washington, D. C.

Congressman PORTER: Personally you have my full sympathy in this matter and I hope that this legislation will carry. This is getting to be a very serious menace to our young men and women. To me it is ten times worse than the drink habit, and I am not a drinking man either.

Thanking you for your message and for the interest that you are taking in this, I remain,

Sincerely yours,

JAMES S. MCCANDLESS, Imperial Potentate.

Congressman PORTER.

FLUSHING, N. Y., February 24, 1923.

DEAR SIR: At the meeting of the executive board of the New York League of Unitarian Women (an organization representing nearly 1,400 women of New York and northern New Jersey) held on Friday, February 23, it was voted to indorse the movement to limit the manufacture of narcotic drugs, and to have you notified of the same through the social service committee of the league. Wishing you all success in your efforts,

Sincerely yours,

O

LAURA R. DONNELL,

Chairman Social Service Committee.
