O grant us grace continually to behold that Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world, and to be ever looking to him who bore our sins in his own body on the tree, and on whom thou hast made the iniquities of us all to meet, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

O Lord Jesus, dwell in our hearts by faith, and by thine own Spirit fill our souls with love to thyself who hast so loved us, that we may hereafter live to him who died for us. Quicken us to walk in thy ways. Revive thy work mightily in us. Subdue our sins and sanctify us wholly; making us like thyself, and delivering each from our peculiar dangers and temptations, and enabling each to adorn thy doctrine in all things, and occupy all the talents given to us, to the glory of Thee the giver.

We thank thee from the heart for all thy mercies; for any preservation from evil, any help in duty, and any services rendered to others, all glory be to thee. All is of thee. O receive our day's labour as a willing service rendered unto thee our Heavenly Master.

Take us and ours into thy care this night. Guard us and all we love, and all for whom we ought to pray, from every evil. Relieve the distressed, succour the tempted. Execute judgment for the oppressed. Give food for the hungry. Beautify the meek with salvation, and may they speedily inherit the earth. Hear us, O our God, for Jesus sake.

XLIX.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

FOR SEPARATION FROM THE WORLD, and grace TO BE GIVEN TO EACH MEMBER OF THE FAMILY.

O Lord, our rock and our fortress, our deliverer and our strength, in thee will we trust and thee will we love, for the light of the knowledge of thy glory has shined in our hearts in the face of Jesus Christ; we have been baptized in his name, and we entreat thee to baptize us with his Spirit now and ever

more.

We desire as a family to come out and be separate from a world lying in wickedness, and not to touch the unclean thing. May we never be unequally yoked with unbelievers. May we have no fellowship with unrighteousness, no part with infidels, no concord with Belial, but may we all have fellowship with righteousness, have communion with light, have concord with Christ, have part with believers, have agreement with the Temple of God. May we be truly the temple of the living God, and do thou dwell in us and walk in us, be our God and make us thy people. O Father, receive us into thy family, and be a Father unto us, and may we be the sons and daughters of the Lord Almighty.

Give us grace to be followers and imitators of God, as dear children. Strengthen each for the

duty of that station in which thou hast appointed that each should do thy will and glorify thy name, whether it be ruling or serving, teaching or learning, directing or labouring; whatever be our respective work and occupation, may we do it heartily and joyfully as unto the Lord, and not unto men. Preserve each of us from our besetting sin. Whether it be love of the world, in its riches, pleasures, or honours; or self-wisdom and self-will; or pride, vanity, indolence, or selfishness; self-righteousness, or vain glory, or any other filthiness of the flesh or of the spirit; may we loathe and abhor all sin, especially in ourselves, and be cleansed from it by the blood of Jesus and the power of his Spirit.

Nor fail to give us, we entreat thee, the same mind that was in Christ Jesus. He is appointed by thee not only as our Saviour, but as our example. Thou wouldest have us to attain his likeness. O give unto us then his devotedness, his earnest, patient, and diligent zeal, his spirit of prayer, the depth of his humility, the tenderness of his compassion, the strength of his confidence, and the ardour of his love. We open our mouth wide according to thy command, that thou mayest fill it according to thy exhaustless fulness of grace.

Bless our rulers, and all our national councils. Direct all public measures for the good of this great nation and of the whole earth, in that remarkable day in which we live. May all the power, riches,

commerce, and influence which thou hast given us be used for thy glory. Fulfil thy promises to Israel, and through them to all nations, for our Redeemer's sake. Amen.

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

FOR FAITH IN PROMISES TO PRAYER, AND FOR

QUICKENING GRACE.

Glory be to thee, O God, most high and most holy, most just and merciful, for all that thou art in thyself, and for all thy dealings with us thy sinful creatures. Thou hast told us that herein is love, not that we loved thee, but that thou hast loved us, and sent thy Son to be the propitiation for our sins. We believe this thy love. Help our unbelief, while through that propitiation we again approach unto thee, pleading the promise that what two of us shall agree as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of thee our Father, which art in heaven.

O give us to believe what thou hast said, with full and growing confidence, and to know that the feeble prayers which we are now offering are really heard by thee, and are powerful to obtain for us the help which we need, because we have a High Priest ever living to make intercession for us.

Enable us with the heart to believe unto righteousness, and with the mouth to make confession

unto salvation. May we never be ashamed of Christ and his gospel, but fully testify of him in the face of the world now, that he may confess us before thee

at the last day.

Quicken us, O Lord, for we sadly experience the deadening effects of intercourse with the world. Preserve us unspotted from it, and may we possess that pure and undefiled religion which visits the destitute and the helpless in their affliction.

Thou knowest that we are sore let and hindered in running the way of thy commandments, by much. occupation and many cares; by vain thoughts; by levity, pride and unbelief. O awaken our souls from all carelessness and indifference, from all drowsiness and dulness in the things of God. Work in us to will and to do of thy good pleasure, and may we work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

Thou seest our ignorance, teach us good knowledge; thou seest our deadness, revive the life and power of godliness in our hearts; thou seest our worldliness, O may we by the cross of Christ at length be crucified unto the world and the world to us; thou seest our many entanglements in the bustle, and company, and pursuits of this life; give us grace to break through all our snares. Let not the good seed of the word be choked in our hearts, but give to it full increase, that it may bring forth much fruit.
