ward us; and rejoice in thee, and enable us also henceforth with divine strength and gladness to run in the way of thy commandments.

Bless our whole family, the heads, the children, -the inmates, the servants. 'May the changing circumstances of thy providence all work for our good.

Bless our respective families, relatives, and friends. Provide for the poor. Heal the sick. Remember strangers and foreigners. Think of all that travel by sea or land. Succour the tempted. Bring to an end the Mystery of Iniquity, the lawlessness of selfwill, and the scoffs of infidelity, and may Jesus speedily return in his glory, and reign over his own inheritance for ever.

FOR PERSEVERANCE AND SAVING GRACE,—

INTERCESSION.

We thank thee, O heavenly Father, for that full display of thy glory given in answer to the prayer of thy servant Moses on Mount Sinai, by which we know thee as the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation. We bless thee for the bright

shining of this thy glory in all its harmony, and the manifestation of thy righteousness, and grace in our redemption, by our Lord Jesus, that thou mightest be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. O let us give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever.

In this confidence we come again before thee, pleading thine own promise that they shall wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. O give us renewed strength, may we rise as on eagles' wings to thee our God; may we run with patience, may we walk with steadfast perseverance in thy ways. Lord, we continually, when engaged in thy service, feel the temptation to weariness and faintness. Bring thy promises home to our hearts, that we may be preserved from being weary in well-doing, knowing that we shall reap in due season if we faint not. Give us each to look diligently that not one of us fail of thy grace, that no root of bitterness spring up to trouble us and defile many.

We beseech thee to strengthen us with the inward might which the Holy Ghost imparts, that we may crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts, and live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. Assist us in all our thoughts, words, and works; in our going out and coming in this day, that all being under thy direction and governance,

the whole day may be spent in thy faith, fear, and love.

O Lord, thou knowest the exact state of each of our souls. Suffer not any of us to be deceived by sin and Satan; may not one of us be in a carnal unconverted state in thy sight. If any now kneeling with us know thee not, reveal thyself to them, so that without one exception, we may all have that eternal life, the happy portion of those who know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

We pray for all the churches of Christ through the world; especially for suffering and afflicted churches in the midst of Papal, Mahommedan, or Pagan darkness. May they glorify God in the fires, and may they shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of life.

We pray for our own land, so blessed, so exalted to heaven, so sinful, and so ungrateful for all the national mercies received, especially through the glorious Reformation. O may we be watchful and strengthen the things that remain and are ready to die, and remember how we have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent, and be prepared as a nation for that day of the Lord which comes as a thief.

Bless our family. Look upon the sick and the afflicted around us, and ever give us sympathy in the sorrows of others. Order all things for the best

good of ourselves, and all we would remember in our prayers, through Jesus our Redeemer.

O Lord, we will praise thee: though thou wast angry with us, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortest us. Behold, God is our salvation, we will trust and not be afraid. O Lord, what a sure foundation hast thou laid in Zion,-Jesus Christ, the rock of ages, the chief corner-stone, elect and precious, and he that believeth on him shall never be confounded. Lord, increase our faith, and enable us with our whole heart to confide in thee.

We would rejoice in all thy tender love towards us, and that we who were once afar off are brought nigh to Thee by the blood of Jesus. In thee we would delight to feel that we live and move and have our being. From thee alone come all our family blessings, our religious privileges, our comforts in this life, and our hope of good things to We have been brought safely to the close of another day, encompassed with thy goodness on every side, and we offer unto thee glad tribute of family praise and thanksgiving,

Forgive, O our God, all that thy holy eye has

seen amiss in our thoughts, words, and works this day. We never attain that perfection to which thou callest us. Our prayers want praying over again; our repentance needs to be repented of; our obedience is full of disobedience; our charity needs itself to be covered by the eye of love; all, all is short of that commandment which is exceeding broad: all, all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. We would count all our own goodness as dross, and follow only after thy righteousness, that we may win Christ, and be found in him.

O our God, we freely confess, that however pure our conduct may have been in the sight of man, however free from blame before our fellow-men, in thy sight all we do is vile and polluted; we can place no confidence in the flesh. In thee, thee only is our hope and our glory.

We would then now wash our robes, and make them white in the blood of the Lamb. By that blood cleanse us afresh from all sin, quicken us afresh to all love and glad service and grateful obedience. Give us such a believing reception of the Lord Jesus, as our present, only and complete Saviour, as shall lead us to put far away all sin with loathing and abhorrence, and to love thee the Lord our God with all our heart and mind and soul and strength.
