We thank thee, that weak and helpless as we are, there is such a treasure for us of promise, of instruction, and of guidance; by which we may be made perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. May every part of thy word be precious and sanctifying to us in all its holiness, fulness, and variety. May the word of prophecy be taken heed to by us, as a light shining in this dark world. May the glorious gospel of thy grace shine in our hearts. May we attend not only to the words spoken by the prophets, but also to the commandments of the Apostles of Christ. May our memory retain thy words. May our hearts delight in it. May our understandings be filled with it, that we may daily grow up in all things into him which is the head, even Christ.

O Lord, grant that all things belonging to the flesh may die in us, and that all things belonging unto the Spirit may live and grow in us. Every Sabbath help us in attaining more and more of thine image and likeness, and more preparedness for the everlasting Sabbath yet to come..

Bless this [parish and] neighbourhood. Let no means of instruction be unimproved, no bible be unblessed, and no sermon preached without prospering to the salvation of those who hear.

Bless especially thy church in these days. We thank thee that thou art giving such tokens as we now witness, that the time to favour Zion is so nearly come. Blessed be thou for such a pledge of

the truth of all thy glorious promises, and such an earnest of thy near approach. Make bare thy mighty arm in the sight of all nations, that all flesh may see thy salvation; and every where bring thy church into a prepared and waiting state for the coming of our Lord and Saviour.

Forgive all the iniquities of our holy things, through that great High Priest now in thy presence, making intercession for us; and by him give us all that we have asked from thee, to the glory of thy great name. Amen.

MONDAY MORNING.

GOD'S MERCIES AND OUR UNWORTHINESS-TO

PROFIT BY THE WORD.

O thou that hearest prayer, and hast promised that unto thee all flesh shall come, purge our iniquities away by the blood of the great sacrifice which Christ made for us, and enable us to enjoy the blessedness of those whom thou causest to approach unto thee.

Thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to sing and rejoice. Thou visitest the earth and waterest it; thou preparest the corn, thou crownest the year with thy goodness, and thy paths drop fatness. Thou redeemest our life from destruction, and thou hast given us eternal life in Christ Jesus. All glory and praise now and for ever be

unto the Father of our mercies and the God of all

our comfort.

Receive, O Lord, this our tribute of praise and thanksgiving. We are unworthy of the least of thy mercies. We confess with one accord our sinfulness; the humbling alienation of our minds from thee, our great dulness in spiritual things, and our eagerness in earthly things; our unbelief, our impenitence, and our slothfulness in the divine life. 0 Lord, forgive us all our sins; we plead only the propitiation made for them by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus, send thy Spirit unto us from the Father to renew our souls.

Quicken us for thy name's sake; draw us, and we will run after thee. Help us to set our affections on things above, and not on things on the earth. Give us precious faith, true repentance, stir us up to all diligence to make our calling and election sure, and quicken us to continual acts of mutual help and love one towards another. O let us not only know, but do thy will; not only hear the command to pray always and not faint, but may we give ourselves unto prayer and know what it is to walk with thee in happy fellowship.

May thy Spirit bring to our recollection the truths which we yesterday heard; and may we bring into this day's conduct the holy lessons of the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through faith may we profit by what we have heard. We ask for the

same mercies for all his disciples, and his professing people through the world.

Let the healing beams of the Sun of Righteousness rise on all Jews and Gentiles, and shine till at length our Lord Christ returns in his full glory, and all the ends of the world remember and turn unto the Lord, and all the kindreds of the nations worship before thee.

Bless especially our own land, our own church, and make us blessings to others through Jesus our Redeemer.

MONDAY EVENING.

TO RECEIVE OUT OF THE FULNESS OF CHRIST.

O Lord Jesus Christ, the King of glory, the Saviour of sinners, the refuge of our souls; thou who livest and wast dead, and art alive for evermore, having the keys of death and hell; receive us weary and burdened with sin, and give us thy salvation; for we come to thee, and desire to take thy yoke upon us and learn of thee.

We believe that thou, who hast once died for us on the accursed tree, wilt come to be our judge; we therefore pray thee, help thy servants, whom thou hast redeemed with thy most precious blood. Open our eyes and turn us from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that we may receive for

giveness of all our sins, and inheritance among them that are sanctified, by faith which is in thee.

O exalted Prince and Saviour, give us thine own Spirit that we may follow thee in thy sufferings and humiliation, in thy patient labour and self-denial, in thy meekness and gentleness; and may daily take up the cross for thy sake; looking finally to be with thee and to behold thy face in righteousness, and to be satisfied with awaking with thy likeness. Be thou our light and our glory, now and evermore.

Almighty Father, we rejoice that it has pleased thee that all fulness should dwell in the Son of thy love, and that by his death we should be reconciled to thee: may we at the last be presented faultless before the presence of thy glory with exceeding joy. Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable good

ness to us.

Still continue to do us good and to bless us. Especially give unto us thine own Holy Spirit in all his gracious offices; to convince us of sin in our unbelief of Christ; to convince us of his righteousness, in his finished and complete salvation, and going to the Father for us; and to convince us of judgment in the condemnation of Satan and our victory over him. Strong in thy strength, may we fast in the faith and quit ourselves like men, and may all things be done by us with charity.
