ignorant and foolish, from all the errors now about in the world. May we know our Bibles too well ever to listen to the lies of popery and the blasphemies of infidels, or to follow the absurd follies of men given to change. May we rather, from the heart, thank God for all the safety, and protection, and religious blessings we enjoy in this country, and do what a poor person can for our country's good, by fulfilling the duties of our station, and earnestly praying God to send down his blessing on our land.

Bless our rulers, and magistrates; and return, O God, whose eyes watch equally over high and low, and bless each one of us in the work of this day, for Christ's sake. Amen.

SATURDAY EVENING.

TO PREPARE FOR ETERNITY,-PRAYER FOR OUR CHURCH.

Lord, at the close of another week what reason we have to thank thee for all the mercies which this week has brought with it-mercies for our bodies and for our souls. What reason we have too, to be humbled for the sins of this week written against us in God's book; what a debt it is! Lord, blot it out in the blood of Jesus.

May each week that passes remind us how time flies, how soon eternity must come; let us often ask if we are ready to meet our God in judgment, and

not delay to fly to Jesus for refuge, seeing that now is the accepted time. O forbid, gracious God, that one of us should be walking in the broad road to eternal misery; as we live together as one family on earth, may we all be ready for our Saviour's coming, and live together for ever with him in the mansions of heavenly glory.

Bless us, Lord, on the morrow. May no work be left undone to-night to do on the morrow.

our minister; teach him, that he may teach us. thank thee, Lord, for all the blessings we enjoy. May God bless all the ministers of our church; pour thy Spirit very largely on them, and on all thy congregations. Bless too those who love Jesus, though they do not walk in our way; teach them too to submit to the ordinances of man, for the Lord's sake. O show all men the folly of choosing their own way, and the blessedness of choosing the things that please thee, that thy people may be of one mind in every thing, for Christ's sake. Amen.

SUNDAY MORNING.

FOR GRACE TO LOOK TO A SUFFERING SAVIOUR.

O Lord God Almighty, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who from the beginning didst ordain thy Son Jesus to be the sacrifice for our sins, and the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world; we bless thy holy name for all those gracious appointments both of the Old and New Testament, by which this only hope of our souls is kept constantly before thy people. Thanks be to thee for the Lamb slain. in the morning and evening sacrifice, under the law, and all those atonements and sacrifices which pointed out Jesus, and the shedding of his blood for us. Thanks be to thee for the sacred ordinance of the Passover, appointed at so remarkable a season of the deliverance of thy people from Egypt, that we might therein discern Christ our Passover slain for us. Thanks be to thee for the full history of this Sacrifice in the Holy Gospels. Thanks be to thee for the Lord's supper to be observed by us in remembrance of his body given and broken, and his blood shed for

us.

O Lord, grant that with so many memorials of

this great propitiation for the sins of the whole world, we may never be unmindful of so great a benefit, nor hide so great a light under a bushel, nor neglect so great salvation. Like thy blessed Apostle Paul, may we determine to make Christ, even him crucified, the great subject on which we continually dwell, and may we thankfully avail ourselves of the appointment of thy church for assisting us in fulfilling this great and truly profitable duty.

We do earnestly pray unto thee for grace to make this a special season of quickening, revival and blessedness to our souls. O may thy Spirit take of the things of Christ, and show them to us. May He discover to our souls the glories of his person, as God over all, blessed for ever, and very man in our nature, of our flesh and blood, touched with a feeling of our infirmities, and tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin. Especially reveal to us the wonders of his dying love, and all the glorious issues of the stupendous sacrifice made by his death for our sins.

Thus may divine love fill and possess our whole souls; and sin in all its abomination and sinfulness be detected and discovered to us. O grant that henceforward we may hate it with a real hatred, and live wholly to him who died for us.

Grant also that all the ends of the earth may remember at length the sufferings of Jesus, and turn unto the Lord, and all the kindreds of the nations

may worship before thee. As Jesus gave himself a ransom for all, so in due time may it be testified to all, and all know thee from the least to the greatest.

And, O Lord, now give us grace, while worshipping in thy courts this day, ever to be looking to Jesus. May we have fellowship of spirit with all he has done, is doing, and will do for us, and glory in his cross, and by it be crucified to the world and the world to us. Hear us, for His name's sake.

TO BE LIKE THE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST.

O Lord Jesus Christ, our best friend, our highest benefactor, who didst in thy last days take up thine abode at the dwelling of those whom thou didst specially love, even Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, pour into our hearts such love to thee that we may long for thy presence. Come at this time to us also, and make thy abode with us, and dwell in our hearts by faith. We entreat thee to give us such grace that we may love thee and hear thy words, and grant that the Father may love us, and with thee come unto us, and that both the Father and thyself may constantly dwell in our hearts, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

And may we show to thee and thine all self-denying and devoted love. As Martha rejoiced to serve thee, may we gladly with our best means serve the
