This day may many a soul in nature's darkness be made glad in thy light; many a loiterer in thy ways. be quickened; many a backslider, healed; and on every side the kingdom of Satan be diminished, and the government and kingdom of him who is the wonderful Counsellor, the mighty God, and the everlasting Father, grow, extend and be enlarged, till it embrace the whole habitable globe, and all the ends of the earth rejoice in thy salvation. Look also upon each solitary wanderer and sick one in his private chamber, and each voyager on the wide ocean, and give them sabbath mercies. May they know that thou, the God of the Sabbath, art present in their solitude, and able to bless them there. O Lord, hear us and answer us for Jesus' sake,

FOR A BLESSING ON THE WORD PREACHED,

Thanks be unto thee, O our merciful Father, for the many and great religious advantages and spiritual privileges which we enjoy in our favoured land on this thy holy day. Truly may it be said to us, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see, for many prophets and kings have desired to see the things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things which ye hear, and have not heard them. O Lord, may our privileges never turn to our greater condemnation. O Lord, let thy

goodness lead us to repentance. May we bear in mind that every gift is given to a man to profit withal; and may knowledge, faith, humility, love and obedience ever follow in our souls the hearing of thy truth; enlighten thereby our minds, purify our hearts, and sanctify our lives.

We do earnestly implore of thee to give unto us thy Holy Spirit to bring to our remembrance what we have heard; may we all of us so meditate upon thy truth day and night, that we may be like a tree planted by the river of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in due season.

Let us not deceive ourselves by judging, approving and commending what we hear; let us remember that thy words may be to us as a very lovely song, and yet we may be of those who hear them, but do them not. 0 may thy truth have a real and constant and powerful influence upon every day and every hour of our lives, upon all our thoughts, words and actions. We pray for those that have assembled with us in thy house. Pardon all our infirmities and iniquities in thy worship and service, and give us the great blessings which we asked, because of our Advocate and High Priest, now in thy presence for us.

We pray for those who have been absent from public worship. Some have been kept by sickness, and others by unavoidable hinderances, from the assemblies of thy people: grant unto them the visits of thy love and grace in their sick chamber, or where

ever may be the place of their constrained absence. Others have kept away from thy house through wilful unbelief, sin, and disobedience; O give them true repentance and a better mind for the time to come; and may they, with us, know what it is to be joyful in thy house of prayer.

O let Israel at length know the blessedness of our Christian Sabbath and of our Lord's day, believing in the resurrection of Jesus, and receiving the out-pouring of his Spirit. Revive thy dying churches; enlarge continually the kingdom of Christ; and let the whole earth be filled with his glory, for his name's sake. Amen.

MONDAY MORNING.

FOR A SENSE OF GOD'S LOVE.

O God, our gracious Father, in whom we live and move and have our being, whose presence and glory surround us on every side, shed abroad, through the Holy Ghost, thy love in Christ Jesus into our hearts. O may we all see how great is thy goodness! how

great is thy beauty! and how excellent is thy lovingkindness! and may all of us be numbered with the sons of men who put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

Give us grace to live under the constant sense of thy holy love to us sinners. May we enter into the fulness of that blessed truth,-that God is love, and he that dwelleth in love, dwelleth in God, and God in him. Let love, out of a pure heart, be the great 'animating, directing and enlivening principle of our whole conduct, towards thee and towards all men.

May the sermons yesterday preached by thy ministering servants here, and the instruction given, be a blessing to this place; to rich and poor, to young and old, to the children in the schools, and to the parents of the children. Extend the same blessing wherever thy gospel has been proclaimed, far and wide. Let there not be one hearing thy truth without gaining some quickening or strengthening grace from the truth preached.

May thy church be animated by a believing view of the bliss of all thy saints now with thee in the heavenly Zion, and by the prospect of the resurrection-glory of thy church in the day of Christ. Seeing this great cloud of witnesses, may we run with patience day by day, the race that is set before us, laying aside every weight with which the world or Satan would encumber us, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and always looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.

O Lord, hold thou up our goings in thy paths; for only while thou holdest us up are we safe. We are in the midst of snares and temptations, which we see not, or at best see very dimly. Do thou then, who never slumberest nor sleepest, still watch over, keep and guard us, and inspire us with holy zeal, and courage and devotedness in thy service.

May the wicked all around be converted and turned to thee; may the impenitent and unbelieving be brought to repentance and faith; may those burdened with sin and guilt come to Jesus and be relieved.

Bless this our family. May it appear that we have been given to each other and brought together in thy providence to be a full blessing to each other, in body and in soul, for time and eternity. O may we all, through thy imparted grace, bring to each other that daily help and comfort which thou didst design for us, by our union as one family together.

And bless the whole family of God; bring in the Jews; bring in the Gentiles, and let it be said over the whole earth, "Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." Hear us for Jesus' sake. Amen.
