FOR CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS.

number of those who abound in works of love, and like our Saviour go about doing good. May thy people ever by well-doing put to silence the ignorance of foolish men, adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour, and bring glory to thy great name.

We especially pray for a blessing at this time on that particular design of charity which is now brought before us. Abundantly prosper this effort of love, and may we have multiplied and increasing reasons to praise thy name. May all who aid in it find by happy experience that it is more blessed to give than to receive, according to the saying of that Divine Redeemer, in whose name we offer up all our prayers.

TO WALK CONSISTENTLY WITH OUR BAPTISM.

O Lord our God, baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, we ought to have lived in the constant sense of thy presence and favour, in the full light of thy love, and in entire surrender of ourselves to thy service; but we have to mourn before thee that we have continually failed of our solemn obligations, and dishonoured that holy name in which we have been bap. tized. Have mercy upon us, and cleanse us afresh from all our sins in the blood of Jesus. O enable us hereafter to fulfil our vows and to walk worthy of our high calling; to renounce the pomps and vanities of this world, and all the sinful lusts of the flesh, to resist the Devil, to believe every truth of thy word, and to walk in all thy commandments blameless. By thine own Spirit strengthen us. Discover to us more and more distinctly thy love to us, and our true blessedness, in walking as members of

Christ, children of God, and inheritors of the kingdom of heaven. May we realize salvation by grace through faith, and with such glorious privileges may we be followers of thee as dear children, and become daily more like thee. O may we never trust in the outward name or form; but may we be enabled by thy promises and the power of thine own Spirit to partake of thy divine nature, and to be holy as thou art holy, pure as thou art pure, and merciful as thou art merciful, through Jesus our Redeemer,

PRAYER FOR CONVERSION.

O thou living God, who art the Saviour of all men, and especially of them that believe, grant that not one amongst us may abide in an unconverted state. Suffer not so fearful a thing, as that any of us, living in the fulness of gospel light, should be so blinded by the mists of sin and Satan as to remain still in darkness, and fall hereafter into that outer darkness. where shall be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Turn thou us, and we shall be turned. Give thou to us all, according to thy precious promise, a new heart and a new spirit. Put thy Spirit within us, and teach us to seek the Lord while he may be found, to call upon him while he is near, for our Saviour's sake. Amen.

FOR REPENTANCE.

O exalted Prince and Saviour, Jesus Christ, seated at the right hand of God to give repentance unto Israel and remission of sins, we apply to thee for these precious gifts. Thou hast told us, that except we repent we shall all perish, and that there is joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth. Seeing then the unspeakable importance of true repentance, may we diligently seek of thee this grace in all the ways of thine appointment. Teach us how spiritual, how holy, and just, and good, and how broad thy law is. May the commandment in its purity, and life, and power, be discerned by us. Help us to see the awfulness and righteousness of the curse on transgressors, and that times without number, daily and constantly, we have fallen short of thy glory. Thus may sin by the commandment become to us exceeding sinful. And farther may thine own Spirit show us thyself, made a sacrifice for us, and bearing our sins in thine own body on the tree. O help us to look to thee thus wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities, till we mourn with godly sorrow, and with true compunction of heart turn unto God and lead a new life, and bring forth fruits meet for repentance. O Father Almighty, grant us repentance unto life. O Jesus, the only

begotten of the Father, give unto us repentance. O Holy Ghost, convince us of sin, and then of righteousness and of judgment, that we may be renewed daily and become the temples of the living God, to whom be all honour and glory, now and

evermore.

FOR FAITH.

O heavenly Father, from whom comes every good and perfect gift, and who savest thine own people, by grace, through faith which is thy gift; we come unto thee that we may obtain like precious faith with all thine elect, through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. Thou hast told us that without faith it is impossible to please thee. Thou hast again and again assured us, the just live by faith, and he that believeth on thy Son shall not perish, but have everlasting life. impart unto us all this needful gift; to believe in the name of thy Son. special work which thou hast required of us, even to believe in him. May we obey the emphatic commands thou hast laid upon us, to believe in him, and to love one another. May we discern that not to believe thee, and the record which thou hast given of thy Son, is to account thee false; and may we especially dread to insult and mock our God in the highest expression of his goodness to us. May every
