As a sort of Thesaurus, or Body of English Poetry, Chalmers's collection will always be useful to the student, for the very reason that it contains a vast amount of forgotten literature that cannot be found elsewhere. But, if this edition embraces more of the obsolete and worthless poetry than the common reader desires, it is very scantily supplied with those historical and literary illustrations which almost every reader needs, while it omits a considerable amount of really excellent poetry. The same is true, in a still higher degree, of the earlier collections of the English Poets. 1853 OF A NEW EDITION OF THE ENGLISH POETS, NOW IN COURSE OF PUBLICATION, BY LITTLE, BROWN, & COMPANY, 112, WASHINGTON STREET, BOSTON.
