The strength of this book is the author's ability to effectively evaluate the performance or underperformance of the missionaries and, their partners against their socio- political background. Hence Crowns of glory, tears of blood: the Demerara Slave Rebellion of 1823 is compulsory reading for students of Guyanese as well as imperial history.
