Jacob's charge to Joseph.

CHAP. XLVIII.

Joseph visits his sick father.

AND it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear. 7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh,'

23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die;
and God will surely visit you, and bring you out
of this land, unto the land which he sware to
Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of
Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye
shall carry up my bones from hence.

26 1 So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

CHAP. I.

The children of Israel increase.

6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

OW these are the names of the children of 7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and

15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock. 17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

CHAP.

God appeareth to Moses.

NOW Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father

Pharaoh chides Moses.

and told Pharaoh, Thus

of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold
a feast unto me in the wilderness.

2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

5¶ And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

22 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil-entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent ine? 23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people: neither hast thou delivered thy people at all. CHAP. VI.

the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt

the thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his laud. 2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:

3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. 4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers. 5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage: and I have remembered my covenant. 6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched-out arm, and with great judgments: 7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. 8 And the tale of the bricks which they did 8 And I will bring you in unto the land, con make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye cerning the which I did swear to give it to shall not diminish aught thereof: for they be ille; Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacri- it you for a heritage: I am the LORD. fice to our God.
