Gentlemen and members of the Subcommittee on Foreign Relations, Senator Holland, Senator Sparkman, Senator Smith, it is my pleasure and privilege to welcome you here to the great city of Atlanta. We are the great center of transportation, traffic, communications here and I hope that since I am on my home ground I do not offend the patriotism, the local patriotism of any members of the subcomcommittee, but we do in all seriousness think that this was the logical place to have such a hearing. Then we are honored by the fact that you have come here to seek the views of the people of this great section of the Nation. I understand, gentlemen, that the chamber of commerce has arranged a little luncheon for you at noon. We hope that your stay here will not only be informative but pleasant as well, and so, gentlemen, I offer you every facility of the city government. I hope that this hearing will be productive of great good, and that you will manage to enjoy yourselves at the same time. Thank you. |
