The Course of study is elective, with diplomas and degrees corresponding to the respective Courses. Professional Degrees are conferred in CIVIL AND MINING ENGINEERING, and in LAW.

Free tuition (under proper conditions) is offered in the following cases:

1. To Candidates for the Christian Ministry. 2. To Teachers of two years standing.

3. To Graduates of all Colleges in good standing.

4. To Prize Scholars of Schools selected by the Faculty.

5. To Students preparing for Journalism as a profession.

And a liberal indulgence is extended to indigent and worthy young men.

Session from 3d Thursday of September to 4th Thursday in June. The second term opens on the 1st of February, 1880. Entire expenses for session of nine months need not exceed $250 to $325.

This Magazine is intended to be strictly literary in its character. Nothing of a political nature will be admitted into its pages. All contributions must be sent by mail, with the name of the contributor in a separate sealed envelope, which will not be opened unless the contribution is accepted. Contributors are requested to write on only one side of the paper

Contributions are solicited not only from the Students but from the Alumni, and all those who have the interest of the University at heart.

A Medal, valued at sixty dollars, the gift of JOSEPH SANTINI, ESQ., of New Orleans, is conferred yearly by the Faculty upon that Student who shall have written the best Essay, published in the Collegian during the session.

"A Prize, the gift of the present Publishers of the COLLEGIAN, was conferred last session by the Faculty upon the author of the Second best Essay."
