14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year, was fix hundred threescore and fix talents of

And of Sheba heard gold,

of the fame of Solomon, concerning the name of the LORD, fhe came to prove him with hard questions.

2 And the came to Jerufalem with a very great train, with camels that bare fpices,and very much gold and precious ftones: and when he was come to Solomon, fhe communed with him of all that was in her heart.

3 And Solomon told her all her queftions: there was not any thing hid from the king which he told her not.

4 And when the queen of Sheba had feen all Solomons wisdom, and the houfe that he had built,

5 And the meat of his table, and the fitting of his fervants, & the attendance of his minifters, and their apparel, and his cup-bearers, and his afcent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD: there was no more fpirit in her.

6 And the faid to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy a&s, and of thy wisdom.

7 Howbeit, I believed not the words until I came, and mine eyes had feen it:) and behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and profperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.

15 Befides that he had of the merchant-men, and of the traffick of the fpice-merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.

16 ¶ And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: fix hundred fbekels of gold went to one target.

17 And he made three hundred fhields of beaten gold; three pound of gold went to one fhield: and the king puc them in the house of the foreft of Lebanon.

18 Moreover, the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the best gold.

19 The throne had fix fteps, and the top of the throne was round behind: and there were ftays on either fide on the place of the feat, and two lions ftood befide the ftays.

20 And twelve lions ftood there on the one fide and on the other upon the fix fteps: there was not the like made in any kingdom.

21 And all king Solomons drinking-veffels were of gold, and all the veffels of the houfe of the foreft of Leba non were of pure gold,none were of filver; it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.

10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he fhould not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.

11 Wherefore the LORD faid unto Solomon, Forafmuch as this is done of!

20 And the fifter of Tahpenes bare him Genubath his fon, whom Tabpenes weaned in Pharaohs houfe: and Genubath was in Pharaohs houfhold among the fons of Pharaoh.

21 And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David flept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the hoft was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart that I may go to mine own

37 And I will take thee, and thou fhalt reign according to all tl at thy foul defireth, and fhalt be king over Ifrael.

38 And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do that is right in my fight, to keep my ftatutes and my commandments, as David my fervant did; that I will be with thee, and build thee a fure houfe, as I built for David, and will give Ifrael unto thee.

39 And I will for this afflict the feed

40 Solomon fought therefore to kill

30 And Ahijah caught the new garment that was on him, and rent it in twelve pieces.

131 And he faid to Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus faith the LORD, the God of Ifrael, Behold, I will rend1 the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee:

41 And the reft of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wif dom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerufalem, over all Ifrael, was for

43 And Solomon flept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his fon reigned in his ftead.

CHA P. XII. Rehoboam refusing the old mens counfel, 16 ten tribes revolt. 25 Feroboams idolatry.

33 (But he fhail have one tribe for my fervant Davids fake, and for Jeru falems fake, the city which I have cho-chem fen out of all the tribes of Ifrael)

33 Becaufe that they have forfaken me, and have worshipped Afhtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemofh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my ftatutes, and my judgments, as did David his father. "

34 Howbeit, I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my fervants fake, whom I chofe, because he kept my commandments and my ftatures:

35 But I will take the kingdom out of his fons hand, and will give it unto thee, even ton tribes.

Nd Rehoboam went to Shechem :

3 That they fent and called him: and Jeroboam, and all the congregation of Ifrael came, and spake unto Rehoboam, faying,

4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous fervice of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will ferve thee.

5 And he faid unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me, And the people departed.

6 And king Rehoboam confulted with the old men that ftood before So 36 And unto his fon will I give one lomon his father, while he yet lived, and tribe, that David my fervant may have faid, How do you advife, that I may an light alway before me in Jerufalem, fwer this people?

en they will be thy fervants for ever. But he forfook the counfel of the men, which they had given him, and fulted with the young men that were wn up with him, and which ftood Fore him:

22 But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23 Speak unto Rehoboam the fon of Solomon king of Judah, and unto all the houfe of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, faying,

24 Thus faith the LORD, Ye fhall not go up, nor fight against your bre thren the children of Ifrael: return every man to his house, for this thing is from me. They hearkned therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein, and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

14 And fpake to them after the cour-in of the young men, faying, My father ade your yoke heavy, and I will add your yoke ; my father alfo chaftifed Du with whips, but I will chaftife you ith fcorpions.

15 Wherefore the king hearkned not to the people; for the caufe was from e LORD, that he might perform his ying, which the LORD fpake by Ahijah e Shilonite unto Jeroboam the fon of

26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now fhall the kingdom return to the houfe of David:

27 If this people go up to do facrifice in the houfe of the LORD at Jerufalem, then fhall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unco Rehoboam king of Judah, and they fhall kil me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

28 Whereupon the king took coun fel, and made two calves of gold, and faid unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerufalem: behold thy goes, O Ifrael, which brought thee up out of

Chap xiii. The prophets difobedience. of the people, which were not of the fresh thy felf, and I will give thee a fons of Levi. reward.

32 And Jeroboam ordained a feaft in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feaft that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar, (fo did he in Beth-el) facrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the priests of the high places which he had made.

33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth-el the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the monch which he had devifed of his own heart and ordained a feaft unto the children of Ifrael, and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incenfe.

CHA P. XIII. 1 Feroboams hand withereth, 6 and at the prayer of the prophet is reffered. 23 The difobedient prophet is flain by a lion. 33 Feroboams obftinacy.

Nd behold, there came a man of

8 And the man of God faid unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine houfe, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread, nor drink water in this place:

9 For fo was it charged me by the word of the LORD, faying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the fame way that thou cameft.

10 So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Beth-el.

11 Now there dwelt an old prophet in Beth-el, and his fons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in B.th-el: the words which he had fpoken unto the king them they told alfo to their father.

12 And their father faid unto them. What way went he? for his fons had feen what way the man of God went

Add but of Judah, by the word of which came rom Judah.

the LORD unto Beth-el: and Jeroboam ftood by the altar to burn incenfe.

2 And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and faid, O altar, altar, thus faith the LORD, Behold, a child fhall be born unto the houfe of David, Jofiah by name, and upon thee fhall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incenfe upon thee, and mens bones fhall be burnt upon thee.

3 And he gave a fign the fame day, faying, This is the fign which the LORD hath fpoken; Behold, the altar fhall be rent, and the afhes that are upon it fhall be poured out.

4 And it came to pafs when king Jeroboam heard the faying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Beth el, that he put forth his hand from the altar, faying, Lay hold on him. And his hand which he put forth againft him, dried up, fo that he could not pull it in again to him.

5 The altar alfo was rent, and the afhes poured out from the altar, according to the fign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.

6 And the king answered and faid unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be reftored me again. And the man of God befought the LORD, and the kings hand was reftored him again, and became as it was before.

13 And he faid unto his fons, Saddle me the afs. So they faddled him the afs and he rode thereon,

14 And went after the man of God, and found him fitting under an oak; and he faid unto him, Art thou the man of God that cameft from Judah? And he faid, I am.

15 Then he faid unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.

16 And he faid,I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread, nor drink water with thee in this place.

17 For it was faid to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread, nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou cameft.

18 He faid unto him, I am a prophet alfo as thou art, and an angel fpake unto me by the word of the LORD, faying, Bring him back with thee into thine houfe, that he may eat bread, and drink water. But he lied unto him.

19 So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank

water.

20 And it came to pafs as they fat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him. back:

21 And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah,faying, Thus faitis the LORD, Forafmuch as thou haft dif obeyed the mouth of the LORD, and haft not kept the commandment whic the LORD thy God commanded the Pa
