In glancing over this tabulation I note that the pattern is the same, with a few selected institutions receiving a very large portion of the total. University of California, $18.2 million; Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory, $16.2 million; Johns Hopkins University, $60.6 million; MIT, $94.6 million; Stanford Research Institute, $24.8 million; and Stanford University, $10.4 million. This tabulation will be included in the record at this point. (The tabulation follows:) EDUCATIONAL AND NONPROFIT INSTITUTIONS RECEIVING PRIME CONTRACT AWARDS OF $10,000 OR MORE FOR Fiscal Year 1970 Department of Defense prime contracts totalling $655 million were awarded to 387 educational and other nonprofit institutions in fiscal year 1970 for research, development, test and evaluation work. Of this total, $634 million was awarded to 325 institutions in the United States, $9 million to 13 U. S. Government agencies, and $12 million to 49 foreign institutions and government agencies. These figures compare with similar data for fiscal year 1969 as follows: The first section lists 193 There are three sections in this report. educational and 132 other nonprofit institutions in the U. S. The second section lists the 13 U. S. Government agencies, and the third section lists the 49 foreign institutions and government agencies. The locations shown are those where the work was expected to be performed. Generally, the location is an institution's laboratory or other facility. However, if the work was scheduled to be performed at a Defense activity, such as an Air Force Base, the location is the Defense activity rather than the institution's facility. The dollar amounts shown include only contract awards for RDT&E work. They exclude any other services, such as training services, or any supplies furnished by these contractors. |
