May we more openly declare, that as for us and our house we will serve the Lord. May it be like making a battlement for our roof!

We would sympathize with them of Thy children, O Lord, who have been debarred their accustomed attendance on Thine outward service. Let not the holy day have visited, nor left, them without refreshing from Thy presence. Let them not have dwelt in a dry land where no water is. Be merciful to them as Thou usest to be to those who fear Thy name. Suffer them not to feel that they are cast out of Thy sight, but may they look again toward Thy holy temple. And if no more their feet may stand in the midst of Thy courts, may they enter the true Sanctuary, beyond the relapses of weakness and the interruptions of pain.

Our prayer arises on behalf of our dear and devoted Missionaries. We have kneeled down with them, and pledged that we would not forget them. We bear them before Thee in these our supplications. Graciously look upon all the sorrow and faintness of their hearts. How different their Sabbath from ours! Surrounded by the rites of idolatry, how has their quiet been invaded! Under even most favourable circumstances, with what stupor and ignorance have they had to contend! How have they thought, and perhaps have wept at the remembrance, of their country's

homes and sanctuaries! May they never regret their decision. May they never betray unworthiness of their high calling by a desertion of it! May the double portion be given to them who are separate from their brethren! May they be anointed with the oil of gladness, like as He was whom they serve, above their fellows! Be to them a little sanctuary in the midst of the heathen!

We feel our infirmities. When at dawnbreak we arose, the happy spirits round about Thy throne were singing, and they still untiringly sing. Our bodies weary, and our spirits fail. We ask of Thee that a change may now pass over us which reminds us of weakness, and of death. O when shall we come to Mount Sion, the heavenly Jerusalem! When shall we mingle with the innumerable company of angels and the shouts of the just made perfect! When shall we flee away and be at rest! When shall eternity be the measure of our Sabbath, and yet shall we never say, What a weariness is it!

Whether we sleep or wake, in our nightly repose and daily vigour, or with our body in the grave, and with our spirit in immortality,-we would live to Thee! We would put our hope in the sacrifice of Jesus; lie down, and rise up, by that Altar!

And now, with the Church universal, with

the whole Family of Heaven and of Earth, we will give glory To the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the only Lord God, our God for ever and ever!

"The grace of our Lord," &c.

MONDAY MORNING.

O LORD our Lord! How excellent is Thy Name in all the earth! How great is Thy goodness, and how great is Thy beauty! Thou openest Thy hand, and satisfiest the wants of every living thing. Thou hast left on our earth, though Thy curse is on its ground and its ungodly inhabitants, a thousand traces of what is magnificent, and lovely, and fair! Thou hast clothed and adorned the lily, Thou settest each star in the sky. Thou alone spreadest out the heavens; Thou, by Thy Spirit, hast garnished them; Thou fillest our world with scenes which delight our eye and refresh our heart. Every where may we perceive Thee. In Thee we live and move and have our being. Thou dost visit us every morning, and try us every moment! How indulgent and forbearing art Thou to have only banished us from Paradise into a world where so many of its charms survive, and so many of its sweets breathe still!

But we would charge our souls to approach Thee through the Mediator. If a man sin against the Lord, who shall entreat for him? We adore Thee that Thy Word meets the fearful case: for if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous. He shall thoroughly plead our cause: the Lord of Hosts is His name. We rejoice in Him, putting no confidence in the flesh. We rely on His unchangeable priesthood. We thank Thee, that the altar is not to build, nor the fire to kindle, nor the victim to select, nor the incense to gather, nor the sacrifice to consecrate, but that all things are ready, that Christ abideth a priest continually, and that He ever liveth to make intercession for us.

We acknowledge Thy goodness in the repose and protection of the past night. Thou hast again opened our eyelids that we should not sleep the sleep of death. Thou renewest our being, and our capacity to serve Thee. Be Thine this early offering,-be Thine the perpetual consecration, of all our powers. When we break our bread may we bless its Giver. When we sit in the house or walk by the way, may Thy word be in our heart. Exposed to continued danger, may we remember that safety is of the Lord. Be Thou at our right hand that we be not moved. May Thy fear be before our eyes, and

while we enjoy its strong confidence may we, as Thy children, know our place of refuge.

Bless us with all spiritual blessings. Let us remember that it is not our family profession which can avail us, but personal experience of the Gospel. May we be justified freely by Thy grace. Sanctify us wholly. Give us power to become Thy children. Let Christ be our life, and be in us the hope of glory. The Lord deliver us from every evil work, and preserve us unto His heavenly kingdom. And at last may we receive the end of our faith, the salvation of our souls.

And remember us, O Lord, as a worshipping family. We own Thine authority and acknowledge Thy beneficence. Thou who feedest us, be the bread of life to our souls. Adorn with Thine apparel the hidden man of the heart, even with that which is not corruptible. Be Thou our house of defence to dwell in until we are clothed upon by our house which is from heaven. May we in our respective stations and several degrees uphold our Christian profession, mark to others that we are bound together by a holy tie,-presenting a specimen, constituting a portion, and exhibiting a counterpart, of the whole family of heaven and of earth, named after the name of Christ!

We implore Thy presence and aid this day
