THE Poems in these volumes were written chiefly in the period between 1816 and 1823. The former part of the poem of "PARIS IN 1815" was written immediately after a visit to that capital, while it was in possession of the Allies; the latter part at some interval. The remaining poems were occasional, and written as other and more important pursuits allowed. They are now collected, for the first time. |
