Yes; one writer in 530 (1300 years ago) speaks of its occurrence in this portion of the Service with the Lord's Prayer; and it is an order of the Council of Girone, in 517, that the Lord's Prayer should be here used.

137. Are these Versicles, also, of ancient use? They are all to be traced back at least 1000 years; occupying, also, the same place in the Service.

138. There has been, I think, a mistake respecting one of them?

Yes; "Give peace in our time," &c., which Bishop Burnet states erroneously to have been introduced in the time of Edward, with reference to political peace; whereas it exists
