ARTICLE 36 OF THE STATUTE OF THE PERMANENT COURT OF INTERNATIONAL 4 JUSTICE Brazil According to a circular letter from the League of Nations, dated February 11, 1937, the declaration of acceptance by the Brazilian Government of the optional clause' provided in the protocol of signature of the Statute of the Permanent Court of International Justice was deposited with the Secretariat on January 26, 1937. The declaration is worded as follows in the translation by the League of Nations: "On behalf of the Government of the Republic of the United States of Brazil, I hereby renew, in virtue of the authorisation of the National Legislature, the acceptance of the compulsory jurisdiction of the Permanent Court of International Justice, for a period of ten years, on condition of reciprocity, with the exception of questions which, by international law, fall exclusively within the jurisdiction of the Brazilian Courts of Law, or which belong to the constitutional regime of each State." ARMAMENT REDUCTION LONDON NAVAL TREATY OF 1930 (TREATY SERIES, No. 830) Japan In accordance with the provisions of article 10 of the London naval treaty of 1930, the Japanese Ambassador at Washington informed the Secretary of State by a note dated February 8, 1937, of the laying of the keel of the Yamakumo, a destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The particulars of the vessel are given as follows: Classification: Destroyer Date of laying keel: November 4, 1936 Standard displacement: 1,500 tons (1,524 metric tons) Extreme beam at or below water line: 10.150 meters Great Britain LONDON NAVAL TREATY OF 1936 The British Foreign Office has informed the American Chargé d'Affaires at London, in accordance with the provisions of the protocol of signature of the treaty for the limitation of naval armament and the exchange of information concerning naval construction, signed at London March 25, 1936, of the particulars on completion of a vessel, as follows: H.
