condemn the world, but that the world thro' him might be faved: be that believeth on him is not condemned.

Nothing therefore can deftroy thy foul, but unbelief: for, although thy fins be as fcarlet, the blood of Christ will make them white as fnow.

If then thou rejecteft Christ, and wilt not come unto him for life, thou muft inevitably perifh. But if thou comeft to Christ, for remiffion of fin in his blood, and freedom from the dominion of fin by his Spirit, he will be thy peace with GoD, and will work by his glorious power in thee, both to will, and to do, that which is good in his fight; and none fhall let, nor hinder it: For it hath pleafed the Father that in him fhould all fullness dwell.

3. Let the true believer abide in Christ, and glory in his Crofs; making mention of his righteousness, and of his only for there is falvation in him, and in no other. Here all true Chriftians are agreed; Christ, and Christ alone, who dwelleth in their hearts, by faith, is their hope of glory.

Although

Although God's law was broken by Adam, and we, in our own persons, have finned exceedingly : Christ, our Surety, and Covenant Head, hath fulfilled all righteoufnefs for us, and made our peace with God, by the blood of his Crofs.

Thou art called then, O believer, to glory in Christ, and live unto God, by the faith of him; let thy fruit therefore be unto holiness, refifting unto blood, ftriving against fin, in the strength of Chrift; for the wages of fin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, thro' Jefus Christ our Lord*.

To whom be glory, and power everlasting.
Amen.

ACTS, XX. 21.

Teftifying both to the Jews and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jefus Chrift.

T

HE principal doctrines which the Apostle Paul every where preached, and insisted on, were those two mentioned in the Text.

They are neceffary to falvation; and therefore it highly concerns all men to be well acquainted with them, and believe them.

To this the Apostle bore witness, as one adjured, or fworn of GOD, to declare it, which himself also was fully affured of, and steadfastly believed.

Influenced

Influenced therefore by the love of truth, and the Spirit of God, he publicly preached and testified; that all men, whether Jews or Gentiles, must repent and believe the Gofpel, or perifh everlastingly.

Now, repentance toward God, and faith toward aur Lord Jefus Chrift, are a fummary of Gospel doctrine; including, or implying whatsoever tends to destroy the old man, and build up the new in its stead; and hence they become foundation principles of life; and falvation to mankind: for in Chrift Jefus neither circumcifion availeth any thing, nor uncircumcifion, but a new creature *.

It is certain that no flesh can be faved without this repentance, and faith, which Paul preached: for, as a witnefs of GOD, he teftified, that this was God's appointed way of bringing to himself, and faving loft finners: Vain therefore are the hopes of those men that do not repent, and believe the Gofpel; but their hope is fure, and well-grounded, who- turn to GoD by Jefus Chrift, not feignedly, but with the whole heart.

Our Text confifts of two general propofitions :
