PREFACE

This NAVY TRAINING COURSE is intended primarily for Aviation Storekeepers. However, since storekeeping has to do with supply, and since supply is so essential to the success of naval aviation, all aviation rates and ratings can profit by studying this book. It should be of particular value to chief petty officers in the various aviation ratings who are concerned with the hows and whys of material and its procurement.

Chapter one introduces the study of aviation supply in relation to the five basic functions of the naval aeronautic organization-design and research, maintenance and repair, training, operations, and supply. Chapter 2 is a short review of aircraft recognition and terminology, and chapter 3 is an analysis of the "Integrated Aeronautic Program" which laid the foundation for defining the responsibilities of several of the components of the organization. Chapter 4 describes the organization for National Security and the organization, functions, and duties of each of the major elements of the naval aeronautic organization. Other chapters deal with the Navy supply system, aircraft maintenance, the FASRON program, naval air stations, and fleet aviation supply organization.

At the end of each chapter will be found a short quiz covering some of the main points in each chapter. Answers will be found in appendix I. Appendix II consists of the qualifications for advancement in rating required for Aviation Storekeepers.

As one of the NAVY TRAINING COURSES, this book represents the joint endeavor of the Naval Air Technical Training Command and the Training Publications Section of the Bureau of Naval Personnel.
