vi. 17. Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us all things richly to enjoy. Col. iii. 5. (See above.) Rom. vii. 7, 8. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law; for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 1 Thess. iv. 5. Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God. Ephes. ii. 3. Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and even by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 1 Pet. ii. 11. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul. 2 Pet. ii. 2, 3. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be spoken evil of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you; whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. Tit. ii. 12. Teaching us, that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. Tit. iii. 3. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice, hateful and hating one another. Mark iv. 19. And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. 1 John ii, 15-17. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away and the lusts thereof, but he that doeth the will of God, abideth for ever. Matt. vi. 24. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he

will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Jude 16. These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. 1 Kings xxi. 4. And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread. Phil. ii. 14. Do all things without murmurings and disputings, Gal. v. 26. Let us not be desirous of vain-glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Ps. cxii. 9, 10. He hath dispersed, he bath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour. The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and consume away: the desire of the wicked shall perish. Gal. v. 21. Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in times past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Tit. iii. 3. (See above.) 1 John iii. 17. But whoso hath this world's goods, and seeth his brother hath need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

SECTION IV.

2 Tim. i. 3. I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day. 2 Cor. i. 12. For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. 1 Cor. vi. 11. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified

in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 John iii. 24. And he that keepeth his commandment dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. Jude 19. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit, Gal. v. 16—18. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Gal. vi. 8. For he that soweth to the flesh, shall of his flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit, shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Rom. viii. 13. 26. For if ye live after the flesh ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit, do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what things to pray for, as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us, with groanings which cannot be uttered. 2 Cor. vi. 4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them that believe not, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. John xii. 31. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. John xiv. 30. Hereafter I will not talk much with you, for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. Prov. xxii. 4. By humility, and the fear of the Lord, are riches, honour, and life. Matt. xviii. 4. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself, as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of God. Phil. iv. 6. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. 1 Tim. iv. 4. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving. Ephes. v. 20. Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

SECTION VI.

James iii. 2. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. John xv. 5. I am the Vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me, ye can do nothing. 1 John i. 8. If we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Rom. vii. 18, 19. For I know that in me (that is in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which I will, I know not. For the good that I would, I do not: and the evil that I would not, that I do. Matt. v. 48. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Ephes. iv. 13. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Phil. iii. 13. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended : but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Ephes. i. 6. To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the Beloved. 1 Pet. ii. 5. Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. James ii. 9. But if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. John xvi. 8. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. Lev. xx. 7, 8. Sanctify yourselves, therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your

God. And ye shall keep my statutes and do them: I am

Rom. vii. 7. 12. What shall
God forbid. Nay I had not

the Lord which sanctify you. we say then, Is the law sin? known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Rom. iii. 9. 20. 23. What then? Are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Psal. xix. 11, 12. Moreover by them is thy servant warned, and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me, from my secret faults. Gal. iii. 21. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. Rom. x. 4. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness, to every one that believeth.

SECTION VII.

James ii. 11, 12. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that must be judged by the perfect law of liberty. Exod. xx. 1, 2. And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Hab. i. 13. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look upon iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he. 1 John iii. 4. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law; for sin is the transgression of the law. Rom. vii. 12. Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Ephes. v. 6.
