BE THOU FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer.

O Lord, our God! Our fathers have told us, and we have learned in our own experience that all depends upon Thy blessing. Thou art the Father of lights, the giver of every good and perfect gift, and Thy mercies are new every morning; of Thee the whole family in heaven and earth is named. To Thy gracious care we commend these children. Look down upon us in mercy, and grant Thy Holy Spirit to Thy glory in Christ and to our salvation. Amen.

The words from the Book of books which we give these young persons as their motto for this present hour and as the guiding-star for their future life, are found in the

Revelation of St. John 2:10.

Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Beloved sons and daughters: The present hour fills you with holy joy and solemn earnestness. Sustained by the love of parents and grand-parents, and accompanied by the prayers and good wishes of brothers and sisters, sponsors, relatives and friends, you have come in solemn procession to this altar, with the confession of faith upon your lips and the vow of fidelity in your hearts, as your reply to the exhortation of the Lord which we have just heard: "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."
