AFTER two days was the feast of the paffover, and of unleavened bread; and the chief priests and the fcribes fought how they might take him by craft, and put bim to death.

57 And he cometh, and findeth them fleeping, and faith unto Peter, Simon, Sieepeft thou? Couldest not thou watch one hour?

58 Watch ye and pray, left ye enter into temptation. The fpirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

48 And Jefus anfwered and faid unto them, Are ye come out as against a thief, with fwords and with ftives to take me? 49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not; but the fcriptures must be fulfilled.

50 And they all forfook him, and fled. 51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth caft about bis naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

53 And they led Jefus away to the high priest and with him were affembled all the chief priests, and the elders and the scribes.

54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest : and he fat with the fervants, and warmed himself at the fire.

55 And the chief priests and all the council fought for witness against Jefus to put him to death; and found none.

56 For many bare falfe witness against him, but their witnefs agreed not together.

57 And there arofe certain, and bare falfe witness against him, faying,

58 We heard him fay, I will deftroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

59 But neither fo did their witness agree together.

AND ftraightway in the morning the chief priests held a confultation with the elders and fcribes and the whole council, and bound Jefus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

2 And Pilate afked him. Art thou the King of the Jews? And he anfwering, faid unto him, Thou fayeft it.

15 ¶ And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jefus, when he had fcourged him, to be crucified.

16 And the foldiers led him away into the hall, called Pretorium; and they call together the whole band

17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head;

18 And began to falute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

19 And they fmote him on the head with a reed, and did fpit upon him, and, bowing their knees, worshipped him.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the fabbath,

43 Jofeph of Arimathea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jefus.

45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Jofeph.

46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a fepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a ftone unto the door of the fepulchre.

47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jofes, beheld where he was laid.

CHAP. XVI.

1 Chrift's refurrection. 19 He afcendeth

into beaven.

3 And they faid among themselvés, Who fhall roll us away the ftone from the door of the fepulchre ?

And when they looked, they faw that the ftone was rolled away for it was very great.

5 And entering into the fepulchre, they faw a young man fitting on the right fide, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

6 And he faith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye feek Jefus of Nazareth, which was crucified he is rifen; he is not here; behold the place where they laid him.

7 But go your way, tell his difciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there hall ye fee him, as he faid unto you.

8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the fepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither faid they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.

9 Now when Jesus was rifen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had caft feven devils.

10 And he went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.

11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.

13 And they went and told it unto the refidue: neither believed they them.

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they fat at meat,and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had feen him after he was rifen.

15 And he faid unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized thall be faved; but he that believeth not hall be damned.

17 And thefe figns fhall follow them that believe: In my name fhall they caft out devils; they fhall speak with new tongues;

18 They hall take up ferpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they hall lay hands on the fick, and they fhall recover.
