Lord. As Lazarus, raised from the dead, sat at meat with thee, so, raised from the death of trespasses and sins, and quickened together with thee, may we sit together and feast with thee in heavenly places, and have meat to eat that the world knows not of.

And with this give us also the listening, loving spirit of Mary. May we like her sit at the feet of Jesus, and hear his words, attend to the one thing needful, and choose the good part that shall not be taken from us. May we, like her, rejoice to be at great cost for our Redeemer, and to pour our best gifts upon him, anointing his feet with the fragrant odours of gifts of love and gratitude. O Holy Ghost, pour into our hearts fervent, glowing, self-sacrificing love to Jesus; love that will show itself, now that he is absent in person, in doing good to the poor always, and especially in diffusing the blessing of his gospel.

And we pray thee keep us far from the grudging, hypocritical and deceitful spirit of the traitor Judas, murmuring at instead of rejoicing in the grateful love of others to thy name, and kingdom, and glory. O Lord, let the whole earth hear and partake of the love of thy church. Let the angel fly through the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation and kindred and tongue and people. According to thy gracious promise, wherever the gospel

shall be preached throughout the whole world, let Mary's costly love to thee be spoken of for a memorial. And at length let the death and burial of Jesus for us sinners be embalmed in the grateful recollection of all mankind, in that coming kingdom of glory for which we wait.

O Jesus, grant that we like Mary may be thoughtful to do what we can, as she did what she could, duly to celebrate thy death and burial, and show our gratitude to thee for thy inestimable love in our redemption. Being now bought with a price, may we ever consider that we are no longer our own but thine, and may we glorify thee in our bodies and our spirits, which are thine.

Give, O heavenly Father, thy full blessing to what we have heard this day in thy house, or have read from thy word. May it abide with us, and make us fruitful in every good word and work. Grant to such of us as hope shortly to join thy faithful people at thy table, in the solemn ordinance of the Lord's Supper, abundant grace to examine ourselves, and give time to private meditation and prayer, and so to go to that table with a penitent, believing, and loving heart, and to receive by faith the inestimable blessings of the communion of the body and blood of Christ. May this ordinance be specially observed by thy people at this time; be a very large and growing blessing to them, enabling them to feed on Christ by faith now, and to look forward to the blessed

hope of his return and appearance in glory. Hear us, for his name's sake.

MONDAY MORNING.

FOR GRACE TO MEDITATE ON CHRIST, AND TO CONFESS HIM.

O our Lord and our God, the first and the last, Thou that livest and wast dead, and art alive for evermore, to whose incarnation, sufferings, and death for us we owe all our present blessings, every hope of future good, and especially the ground of our confidence in the judgment to come, and the gift of eternal life-all glory be unto thee. We desire grace of thee, to give more time and thought to consider thy sufferings on the cross, thy putting away our sins by the sacrifice of thyself, and to meditate on all thy love to our souls.

May we set thee, our dying Lord, continually before our minds, ever looking unto Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith. Enable us to meditate much on those parts of thy word, which either in type, or prophecy, or history, or doctrine, or songs of triumphant joy in heaven, bring before us. thy atoning sacrifice, and the full propitiation thereby made for our sins. Nor let us be ashamed of the sacrifice of Christ, by which our sins are taken away, nor keep it back from the view of others; but may

we confess it more boldly and openly, glory in it more continually, and find it daily more effectually the power of God to our salvation, and that of countless numbers of believers in our own land and among all men, Jews and Gentiles, throughout the world.

O Lord Jesus, grant unto us to know that we are justified not by the works of the law, but by faith in thee. Through the law, like thy blessed apostle Paul, may we be dead to the law, that we may live unto God. May we be crucified with thee, O Christ, yet live; yet not we, but thou thyself living in us; and the life which we now live in the flesh may we live by faith in thee, the Son of God, who didst love us and give thyself for us. O precious Saviour, divine Redeemer, and quickly returning Lord and King, hear our prayers, for thy name's sake, to whom, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory now and evermore. Amen.

MONDAY EVENING.

HOSANNAS TO THE SAVIOUR-PRAYERS FOR HIS SPEEDY RETURN TO ZION.

O our divine Redeemer, who, before thy sufferings, didst, as the King of Zion, ride into Jerusalem meek and lowly, sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass, we would join the joyful acclamation of the great multitude by whom thou wast welcomed, crying, Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed

is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. We worship and adore thee, our King, our God and Saviour, for thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father.

O mercifully grant unto us not only to welcome thee in joyful words of praise, but may all we have be at thy service, according as it is needed for thy kingdom, and in every thing may we know and follow in this our day the things which belong to our peace. Let them not be hid from our eyes, but may we walk in the light while we have the light; and knowing now the time of our visitation, may we take up our cross and confess thy name before the world.

O gracious Father, mercifully by thine own Spirit draw all our souls unto Christ, that we may have life. May we come to Christ to be taught by him, to trust in his atonement, to obey his commands, and to rejoice in his grace and love. May our chil dren know thee, love thee, and welcome thee, even now, as in the temple of old the children cried, Hosanna to the Son of David; and still do thou perfect praise out of the mouth of babes and sucklings.

Grant too that we may ever be looking for that promised time when our Saviour shall come again in the glory of his Father. O hasten the day when thy people Israel shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, coming in the clouds
