INTRODUCTION THIS Collection of poems for school reading has been planned for children from ten to fifteen years The compiler has long felt the need in his own schools of a book of modest size and price that should include the poems here brought together. They are for the most part old favorites, and they have proved themselves by actual test to be well fitted to give genuine pleasure to children, and, at the same time, to foster in them a growing appreciation of what is good in literature. The collection is by no means exhaustive, and is intended only to supplement the many admirable selections from English and American authors now prepared for school use. It is hoped, however, that this book may prove to be one which children will like to own for themselves, and that, instead of being read and then laid aside for something new, it may enjoy an intimate and enduring companionship with them.
